Telematics

What is Telematics?

The word telematics is a combination of telecommunications (exchange of information across a long distance) and informatics (collection and analysis of data to address real-world problems).

Therefore, telematics is the digital exchange of information between vehicles and computers. It assists vehicle monitoring and diagnostic data transfer from vehicles to computers. Telematics systems exchange all information, including speed, idling duration, and tire pressure, as well as fuel use and unsafe driving.

How Do Telematics Systems Work?

It is a four-step process:

  • – Vehicle data is collected using OBD sensors and GPS trackers.
  • – This data is delivered to the fleet management software via satellite or cellular networks.
  • – Data is interpreted, analyzed, and organized by the software.
  • – This improved and bite-sized data is distributed via fleet management or GPS tracking software.

What Data Can Telematics Systems Collect?

  • – Location
  • – Speed
  • – Trip history
  • – Idling time
  • – Fuel consumption
  • – Engine data
  • – Battery voltage
  • – Driving patterns
  • – Odometer readings
  • – OBD data
  • – Sensor reading
  • – Video recordings

And much more!
